PURPOSE/AIM

1. To review the MR and CT imaging characteristics of hepatic metastasis from NET. 2. To discuss the pitfalls in the detection of these lesions 3. To discuss the pitfalls in the measurements of these lesions

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

-- The clinical and surgical goal of imaging in metastatic liver disease from NET. -- The spectrum of MR and CT imaging characteristics of the NET’s metastases in liver. -- The various factors which may affect the detection and measurements of these lesion.

SUMMARY

Although most of the liver metastasis of NET are solid and hypervascular, they may show different imaging characteristics ranging from purely solid to purely cystic. Morphologic and enhancement characteristics may not be similar to the primary tumor also. Liver is the most common site for monitoring and evaluation of the therapeutic response in metastatic NETs. Multiple factors such as hepatosteatosis, hepatic venous congestion , arterioportal shunts related to the hypervascular metastasis and posttherapeutic perfusion changes can affect the lesion detection and measurement.
