PURPOSE/AIM

To review: 1. The role of imaging in the staging and preoperative assessment of primary penile neoplasms 2. The common postoperative complications and the spectrum of imaging appearances of relapsing disease 3. The current radiological controversies and recommended imaging strategies relating to the assessment of regional lymph nodes

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

1. Review of the typical radiological disease patterns and how specific imaging modalities (US, CT, MRI and nuclear medicine) can assist the planning of surgical resection and treatment of regional and distant metastases. We illustrate key teaching points through a series of complex cases. 2. Imaging algorithms used in our tertiary referral centre for the primary staging and follow-up of penile cancer. 3. Pitfalls that may be encountered. 4. The contribution of sentinel lymph node sampling.

SUMMARY

The major teaching points of this exhibit are: 1. Current surgical strategies and the recommended imaging pathways for the investigation of primary penile cancer at presentation and during subsequent follow-up. 2. The most important aspect of radiological management is the reliable assessment of regional lymph node involvement - we discuss the current evidence for how this should be achieved.
