1. To discuss and illustrate traumatic biliary injury.
2. To review the imaging modalities in biliary trauma including ultrasound, CT, nuclear medicine and MRI.
3. To review the indications for biliary imaging in trauma.
1. Discuss the imaging features of traumatic biliary emergencies, including penetrating, blunt and iatrogenically induced injuries.
2. Biliary injuries including intra and extrahepatic and gallbladder trauma will be discussed as well as associated vascular injuries.
3. Discuss appropriate imaging triage and protocol considerations in biliary trauma, including the use of ultrasound, CT, NM, and MR, specifically, the emerging role of hepato-biliary contrast agents in hepato-biliary trauma.
This educational exhibit reviews the imaging findings in traumatically induced biliary injuries, using a multi-modality imaging approach. The appropriate imaging workup, including protocol considerations, are discussed. This includes emerging concepts in biliary trauma including the use of hepato-biliary MR contrast agents.
