LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1) Describe the role of breast density in breast cancer risk assessment. 2) Describe the impact of hormonal compounds and lifestyle factors upon breast density. 3) Identify the potential role of breast density in breast cancer risk assessment models.

ABSTRACT

The presentation will discuss studies evaluating the association of mammographic breast density and breast cancer risk. The impact of masking of breast cancers by breast density, the histologic nature of dense breast tissue, and the influence of hormonal compounds and lifestyle factors will be reviewed. Finally, the evolving role of breast density in breast cancer risk assessment models will be discussed.
