TEACHING POINTS

Understand how virtual reality technology can be used to create an immersive virtual operating roomExperience intraoperative fluoroscopy in a radiation-free virtual environmentTrain C-arm operationLearn about common fluoroscopic imaging procedures in a guided task-based way with individual performance evaluationAssess the (virtual) radiation exposure associated with generated x-ray images through different types of interactive visualization

TABLE OF CONTENTS/OUTLINE

1. Introduction to virtual reality (VR) technology: use of a head-mounted display and hand controllers for immersion and 3D interaction2. C-arm operation: Operate a virtual c-arm with VR hand controllers to generate simulated fluoroscopic images of a virtual patient3. Teaching modules: Select pre-defined tasks to perform specific imaging procedures and get feedback with regard to accuracy, required time and patient entrance dose4. Visualization of radiation exposurea. Radiation distribution in the whole operating roomb. Local radiation distribution/dose (using interactive probing tools)
