The teaching points to be made are as follows:
1. Familarize the reader with the typical appearance of non malignant prostate tissue on MRI
2. Discuss the typical appearance of prostate malignancy.
3. Describe the variety of benign findings in the prostate that mimic neoplastic processes on MRI.
4. Discuss techniques to avoid imaging pitfalls
Anatomy of the prostate gland
Normal prostate gland appearance on MRI. Typical appearance of the Central gland and peripheral gland. Range of normal.
Typical appearance on multiparametric MRI of malignancy using T2, Diffusion, and Contrast enhanced imaging.
Findings that may mimic neoplasm including hypertrophic nodules, infection, variants in normal anatomy of the prostate. Post biopsy hemorrhage. Post surgical and post radiation changes.
Sample cases biopsy proven.
Discussion and future applications to limit pitfalls.
