1. Iodinated intravenous contrast agents are used daily in radiology practice. Radiologists are often the first or lone responders to contrast reactions and other situations. Being prepared in handling such situations has an imperative role in the radiology practice
2. We will answer questions to infrequent but real-life questions about shellfish allergy, breakthrough reactions, imaging of pregnant patients, etc. This exhibit will prepare residents and practicing radiologists to handle several such situations.
1. Should I obtain consent prior to contrast administration?
2. Can a patient with asthma and multiple drug allergies receive contrast?
3. In a patient with previous contrast reaction, is premedication for IV contrast foolproof?
4. Can a patient with shellfish and Betadine® allergy receive IV contrast?
5. Is there a minimum or maximum dose of IV contrast?
6. What are some medications to watch out for?
7. What precautions are there to take in a breast feeding or pregnant patient?
8. Do patients on dialysis need immediate dialysis after IV contrast?
9. When do I consult surgery status post contrast extravasation?
10. Is there a cutoff for creatinine prior to administering IV contrast?
