TEACHING POINTS

To determine the radiation dose to the patient and physician using hybrid operating room system (HORS) in the treatment of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms To understand the importance of reducing/optimizing the radiation dose to physician and patient in HORS

TABLE OF CONTENTS/OUTLINE

Evaluation of radiation dose and related factors in more than 200 consecutive endovascular treatments using HORS -The patient skin dose, fluoroscopic time, and number of DSA were recorded for all patients. -Radiation exposure to the physician and staff were measured using personal dosimeters. Reducing/optimizing the radiation dose in HORS -Minimize beam-on time (fluoroscopy/DSA). etc. -Radiation safety education for physician is important to reduce the radiation dose to the patient and the physician. SUMMARY: Patient radiation dose results in this study of endovascular treatments using HORS showed no deterministic radiation effects, such as skin injuries. Our study suggests that physician and staff doses in these procedures were not significant when the procedures were performed with appropriate radiation protection. 3D virtual pre-operative planning for endovascular treatment using 3D-CT provided significant help with regard to the interventional strategy. Thus, it can be a helpful way to reduce/optimize the radiation dose in HORS.
