TEACHING POINTS

Review anatomical and functional characteristics of knee cartilage. Explain pathogenesis of femorotibial cartilage lesions.   Describe classification of subchondral, chondral and osteochondral lesions, included the proposed by Bohndorf and Vellet.   Discuss the importance of radiological assessment to guide appropriate treatment and describe the options as conservative, arthroscopic or open surgical procedures.
