TEACHING POINTS

The purpose of this exhibit is: To review and describe the imaging findings in small bowel obstruction (SBO) on MDCT. To learn what radiologists need to know about SBO for clinical management and treatment decisions. To illustrate various challenging cases.

TABLE OF CONTENTS/OUTLINE

1. Pathophysiology of SBO, with emphasis on closed loop obstruction 2. Review of imaging findings: Localization of SBO (Ascites, mesenteric and bowel edema) Severity of SBO (Bowel wall attenuation and enhancement) Cause of SBO (Adhesion, band, foramen and congenital defect) 3. The radiologic aproach to clinical decisions 4. Various demonstrable cases: analysing various internal hernias 5. Summary
