TEACHING POINTS

The goals of this exhibit are as follows: 1. Explore the broad differential of calcified intra-abdominal mesenteric masses. 2. Review the characteristic CT imaging calcification patterns of these various masses including an emphasis on clinical history in order to improve diagnostic accuracy.

1. Review the broad differential diagnosis of calcified intra-abdominal masses.    a. Carcinoid    b. Treated lymphoma    c. Retractile mesenteritis    d. Metastatic disease       1. Ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma       2. Osteosarcoma/chondrosarcoma       3. Pseudomyxoma peritonei    e. Granulomatous disease       1. Tuberculosis       2. Sarcoidosis    f. Desmoid    g. Mesenteric gastrointestinal stromal tumor/retroperitoneal leiomyomatosis    h. Cystic lymphangioma 2. Review the characteristic imaging findings of the aforementioned entities combined with relevant clinical history to help guide the radiologist in improving diagnostic accuracy, thereby guiding the clinician towards appropriate patient management and therapy.
