The incidence of metastases to the breast is low, but has been reported and may be the first sign of malignancy.
With increased screening across the world, more patients may present with cancer diagnosed on breast imaging as the primary modality.
Furthermore, patients living with a non breast primary malignancy may present with palpable lumps and metasases should be considered.
The aim of this exhibit is to raise awareness of the types of malignancy that most commonly metastasize to the breast and to highlight features that may distinguish between them.
When masses present in the breast, there are sometimes imaging characteristics which are atypical for breast cancer, yet still suggest malignancy.
We present a review of different types of metastases with imaging and histopathological correlation.
We have examples of metastases from various modalities: ultrasound, mammography, CT and MRI.
Our cases of metastases to the breast include:
1. Melanoma
2. Lymphoma
3. Neuroendocrine tumours
4. Paraganglionoma
