TEACHING POINTS

1. Review the anatomy of the middle ear -- including osseous, ligamentous, and neurovascular structures -- using diagrams, cross sectional imaging and 3-D volumetric reconstructions (VR). 2. Explore the concept of a virtual otoscopic exam using 3-D VR. 3. Correlate clinical and intraoperative otoscopic exam with imaging and virtual otoscopy. 4. Present a few common pathologic entities of the middle ear and demonstrate their involvement with the ossicular chain, using a quiz format.
