Pulmonary Complications in Pregnancy: What Every Radiologist Should Know

The major teaching points of the educational exhibit are as follows:
1. Radiologists will be familiar with the clinical features and the multimodality imaging findings in amniotic fluid emboli, venous thromboembolism, tocolytic pulmonary edema, preeclampsia-pulmonary edema, primary spontaneous coronary dissection, pulmonary hemorrhage, peripartum cardiomyopathy, asthma, and trophoblastic emboli causing edema and aspiration pneumonia.
2. Fetal radiation exposure.
3. The unique physiology of pregnancy which contributes to the pathophysiology of the pulmonary complications of pregnancy as seen on imaging.
Physiologic changes in pregnancy (i.e. respiratory rate, increased cardiac output, etc.)
Fetal radiation exposure with different diagnostic procedures/imaging.
