1. Radiologists should be familiar with the emerging role of CT angiography in coronary artery imaging in the pediatric population.
2. The indications, protocol, and findings are distinct from the adult population.
3. Comparison with other imaging modalities and clinical implications are significant to assess the risk-benefit ratio and to select the appropriate imaging modality of choice.
1. Indications to be Illustrated: Kawasaki Disease (KD), Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH), suspected coronary artery anomalies, congenital syndromes, post-surgical assessment
2. Protocol
a. Radiation dose concerns: Prospective ECG gating, mA modulation, optimized kVp, iterative reconstruction, wide-area and dual source CT
b. Image quality concerns: ECG gating, heart rate control, sedation/general anesthesia
c. Ventricular volume/functional evaluation, perfusion
3. Findings
a. KD: Coronary aneurysm, thrombosis, stenosis, calcification
b. FH: Atherosclerosis
c. Coronary artery anomalies: Anomalous origins, coronary artery fistulas
d. Ancillary findings: Aortic involvement (in FH), congenital heart disease, myocardial ischemia
e. Adult manifestations of pediatric disease
4. Comparison with other modalities
a. MR
b. Echocardiography
c. Catheter angiography
d. SPECT
5. Clinical implications
