To exhibit a multimodality -FDG PET-CT and MRI- imaging protocol for IMRT/VMAT volume target delineation of skull base and paransal tumors.
To describe practical issues of MRI and PET-CT interpretation in order to include the pathways of local spread and preserve the organs at risk in the target volume.
Introduction to IMRT/VMAT of skull base and paranasal tumors.
Multimodality imaging protocol prior IMRT/VMAT volume target delineation:
FDG PET-CT: Head and neck FDG PET-CT simulation technique with iodinated contrast. Whole body FDG PET-CT.
MRI: DWI. T2. 3D T1 with contrast.
Imaging interpretation for volume target delineation:
Anatomical landmarks: Routes of local spread. Organs at risk.
MRI practical issues: Delimitation of macroscopic volume. Evaluation of bone marrow disease. Evaluation of perineural and intracranial disease. Evaluation of locoregional nodes. Differentiation between paranasal sinus infiltration and retained mucus.
FDG PET-CT practical issues: Local staging: bone and soft tissue spread. Regional staging: nodal disease. Distant metastases.
Correlation between FDG PET-CT and MRI to aid volume target delineation.
