Understand the anatomy of the peritoneal cavity and location.
Frequency and complication of each internal and abdominal wall hernias.
Demonstration by multi-planar CT images and illustrations.
Multi–detector row CT with multi-planar reformations provides exquisite anatomic detail of the peritoneal cavity thereby allowing accurate identification of hernias and their contents, differentiation of hernias from other abdominal masses (tumors, hematomas, abscesses) and detection of pre- or postoperative complications. Knowledge of abdominal hernias and their complications is essential for making the correct diagnosis and may help guide clinical management.
