Purpose:
1. To review basic principles and protocols of 99mTc-MAA & 81mKr V/Q SPECT & SPECT/CT.
2. To review current literature on V/Q SPECT & SPECT/CT.
3. To illustrate clinical examples, normal variants, artefacts.
Summary – Major Teaching Points:
1. V/Q SPECT imaging improves diagnostic accuracy in patients suspected with pulmonary embolism.
2. Normal variants and artefacts should be taken into consideration whilst reporting a SPECT or SPECT/CT V/Q scan.
3. V/Q SPECT/CT imaging improves the diagnostic accuracy in patients with equivocal findings on SPECT.
Content Organisation:
Illustrated review of the imaging appearances on V/Q SPECT & SPECT/CT
(a) Normal and Abnormal scans (V/Q matched defects, mismatch defects and reverse mismatch defects)
(b) Normal variants (fissures, vessels etc) and artefacts with CT correlation
(c) Incidental & interesting findings on CT
(d) Miscellaneous artefacts/false positives
(e) Non-PE indications of V/Q SPECT & SPECT/CT
