TEACHING POINTS

Recent developments in CT technology permits increased detection of cardiac findings on non-gated chest CT due to decreased cardiac motion artifacts. Also, some of findings are relevant to the patient’s presenting complaints. The purpose of this exhibit is to expose radiologists to a series of challenging cases in order to help improve the radiologist’s diagnostic accuracy when facing such cases.

TABLE OF CONTENTS/OUTLINE

The cases will be presented in a quiz format. Key features will be highlighted in the discussion of each case. The list of cases includes: Ischemic heart diseases – acute myocardial infarction, chronic myocardial infarction Valvular heart diseases – aortic stenosis Myocardial/pericardial diseases – hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, adriamycin induced cardiomyopathy, postpartum cardiomyopathy, constrictive pericarditis Tumors and thrombi – lipomatous hypertrophy of interatrial septum, lipoma, myxoma, angiosarcoma, liposarcoma, intravascular leiomyomatosis, intracardiac thrombus Congenital variants/anomalies – coronary artery and vein anomalies, atrial septal aneurysm, atrial septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus, remnant of common pulmonary vein, pulmonary venous varix
