TEACHING POINTS

Fluid collection in the retropharyngeal space (RPS), including retropharyngeal abscess and several non-infectious diseases, appears in various diseases that should be treated in different clinical departments. Since emergency conditions causing neck pain can demonstrate this finding on CT or MRI, radiologists are required to differentiate these diseases to facilitate proper treatment. The purpose of this exhibit is: 1. To review the normal anatomy of the RPS 2. To review diseases that demonstrate fluid collection in the RPS in children and adults
