PURPOSE

To verify contrast enhancement effect by using the saline Flash injection method which using Dual-Extension Tube with spiral flow which was that developed to X-ray CT.

METHOD AND MATERIALS

Contrast media and saline were injected into the phantom using newly developed Dual Extension Tube (New-Tube) and conventional Dual Extension Tube (Conventional-Tube).The artery part of the phantom was scanned and recorded sequential change of CT value. The injection condition of contrast media and saline are shown (as below). 1) Contrast media 3.0mL/sec(Total 30ml) → Saline 3.0mL/sec(Total 20mL) 2) Contrast media 3.5mL/sec(Total 35ml) → Saline 3.5mL/sec(Total 20mL) 3) Contrast media 4.0mL/sec(Total 40ml) → Saline 4.0mL/sec(Total 20mL) The mean value was calculated from recorded value of CT number, and Time-Density-Curve (TDC) was created. The maximum CT number was calculated from TDC and compared contrast enhancement of New-Tube and Conventional-Tube. These results were compared by Pared T-test.

RESULTS

The maximum CT value in flow rate 3.0mL/sec was Conventional-Tube:254.5±1.4HU, New-Tube:295.6±1.3HU (P < 0.05). The maximum CT value in flow rate 3.5mL/sec was Conventional-Tube:316.4±5.2HU, New-Tube:362.1±19.9HU (P < 0.05). The maximum CT value in flow rate 4.0mL/sec was Conventional-Tube:300.7±4.0HU, New-Tube:374.1±8.8HU (P < 0.05). There is no difference to detect maximum CT value with either tubing Incase flow rate is faster. There is different is maximum CT value.

CONCLUSION

If New- Tube is used, a CT value will be increase by 1.16 to 1.24 times Moreover, it possible to reduce the volume of a contrast media and lower a flow rate.

CLINICAL RELEVANCE/APPLICATION

In case of short-time scan like Coronary-CTA and Brain-CTA which use Area-Detector CT and Dual-Sourse CT volume reduction of a Contrast media by using New Tube. Also it bring into safety for patients.
