Traumatic injuries to the face, orbits, and skull base are often multiple and complex but can occur in predictable patterns that when identified, can simplify and speed evaluation. We plan to review various clinically important patterns of injury and provide a simplified systematic approach to identify them based on specific characteristics and criteria for each.
1. Review the relevant anatomy of the maxilla, mandible, temporal bone, orbits and skull base. 2. Provide case examples of multiple clinically recognized and important patterns of injury to the face and skull base. 3. Discuss how to take a simplified systematic approach to evaluation of injuries of the face and skull base.
At the end of this presentation, the reader will have 1. Reviewed the anatomy of the face and skull base. 2. The ability to rapidly and consistently evaluate complex facial and skull base injuries 3. Improved ability to communicate to referring clinicians clinically relevant information related to specific patterns of facial and skull base injury.
