The purpose of this educational exhibit is to provide a guide to:
1. Review the various presentations of neurosarcoidosis.
2. Describe the common and uncommon pathologies associated with neurosarcoidosis.
3. Demonstrate the clinical and radiologic manifestations associated with neurosarcoidosis.
A combination of text and images will be linked in a didactic format to illustrate the key findings of neurosarcoidosis. Pertinent pathophysiology, imaging findings and sample cases of neurosarcodosis will be reviewed. Leptomeningeal disease, parenchymal disease, spinal cord involvement, cranial nerve involvement, extraneural involvement and dural involvement of neurosarcoidosis will be reviewed.
Sarcoidosis is an enigmatic systemic granulomatous disease of unknown etiology in which nervous system involvement is reported in 5% of patients but in up to 25% of cases seen postmortem. Clinical symptoms of neurosarcoidosis are nonspecific and the involved region of the central nervous system determines the presenting symptoms. It is therefore important to identify the radiographic presentations of neurosarcoidosis as it can play an important role in diagnosis, surveillance, and treatment of patients.
