The inner ear is a difficult organ to image and interpret due to its small size and complex anatomy. The intricate embryological development of the inner ear structures leads to a multitude of confusing cochleovestibular malformations depending on the time of the embryologic insult.Various classifications have been proposed and updated as advanced imaging techniques bring more and more finer details to light. The purpose of this exhibit is to simplify the approach and understanding of these anomalies by analysing the complex embryological development of the inner ear and correlating the same with the various anomalies detected on HRCT and MRI.
1. Discuss the embryological development of inner ear structures
2. Classification of various cochleovestibular malformations based on the time of the embryologic insult, along with discussion of newer modifications like atypical incomplete partition defects
3. Imaging features of various cochleovestibular malformations on HRCT and MRI
After completion of this educational exhibit, one would have learnt :
1. The embryological development of the ear
2. Understanding the classification of cochleovestibular malformations based on the time of embryologic insult
3. Imaging features of the various cochleovestibular malformations
