PURPOSE/AIM

Cystic lesions of the pancreas include a diverse group of lesions, ranging from benign processes to invasive malignant tumors. The purpose of this educational exhibit is to show the characteristic features of selected lesions on multiparametric MRI.

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

Correlate histopathologic findings with anatomic and functional imaging including diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and Secretin enhanced Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography (S-MRCP) findings in:    Cystic islet cell tumour    Serous cystadenoma    Mucinous cystadenoma    Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm    Pseudeocyst    Other cystic pancreatic neoplasms Show and discuss the advantages and limitations of DWI in the evaluation of solid and cystic masses of the pancreas. Show and discuss the advantages and limitations of S-MRCP in the evaluation of solid and cystic masses of the pancreas.

SUMMARY

Conventional MR imaging combined with functional imaging (DWI and S-MRCP) is an excellent method for the detection and characterization of a wide variety of cystic pancreatic lesions. It is important for radiologists to recognize the advantages and limitations of each technique to provide optimal diagnostic assessment and surveillance.
