Recently, at dual energy CT material decomposition analysis became possible. Detection of the blood of early stage was very important in order to treatment appropriately. The purpose of this research was to measure the detection accuracy of the blood component due to Fast kV switching dual energy CT.
The subjects were withdraws blood in which 5 volunteers were informed concent. The blood was separated into the blood cell and the blood plasma with the centrifugal separator. It was made 7 groups (only blood plasma,1:4,2:3,2.5:2.5,3:2,4:1,only blood cell) changing the mixed ratio of the blood cell and the blood plasma. We measured the number of red blood cells(RBC) and hemoglobin level(Hgb) and hematocrit level(Hct) with 7 groups. The blood samples were scanned with Fast kV switching dual energy CT. ROI’s were placed on the blood samples to measure the CT number and blood density and effective atomic number by material decomposition analysis. We performed a correlation analysis between the blood density and RBC,Hgb,Hct.
The CT number was higher in the blood cell than in the blood plasma. The blood density and the effective atomic number were increased accompanied by increase of mixed ratio of the blood cell. A highly positive correlation was observed for RBC and blood density correlation coefficient r = 0.98 (p<0.01). For Hgb, a positive correlation was found and correlation coefficient r = 0.97(p<0.01). A highly positive correlation was found Hct correlation coefficient r = 0.98(p<0.01).
CT value of the blood was decided by the mixed ratio of the blood cell. CT value of the blood was increased in proportion to the amount of red blood cells. The blood density by Fast kV switching dual energy CT is highly accurate measurement was possible.
It is possible to perform appropriate treatment can be determined accurately for the presence of small amounts of bleeding and is recommended a method to detect the bleeding by dual energy CT.
