PURPOSE/AIM

The purpose of this exhibit is: 1. To describe the various thoracic manifestions of systemic syndromes and disorders in children with emphasis in the computed tomographic findings. 2. To review the imaging findings and clinical features that may help radiologists to make a correct diagnosis.

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

This review outlines the clinical manifestations and imaging findings of thoracic manifestions of rare systemic syndromes and disorders. The diseases included in this presentation are:  1) Storage diseases: Gaucher’s disease, Wilson’s disease, Glycogen storage disease 2) Chromosomal disorders: Alport syndrome, Omenn syndrome, Bruton’s disease, Primary ciliary dyskinesia 3) Immunologic disorders: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, Langerhans cell histiocytosis 4) Idiopathic diseases: Gorham-Stout syndrome, Idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis, congenital pulmonary lymphangiectasia.

SUMMARY

The visitor to this exhibit will be able to understand the pathophysiology, clinical presentation and radiologic features of  the thoracic manifestations associated with systemic syndromes and disorders. Emphasis will be laid on differential diagnosis using CT findings. Attention is also given to the histopathologic correlation with the imaging findings.
