PURPOSE/AIM

Volumetry of lung nodules on chest CT provides fundamental features to be analyzed. The purpose of this exhibit is: 1. To review the volumetry of lung nodules on chest CT. 2. To review the idea of volume doubling time to estimate the prognosis of lung nodules. 3. To show the computational analysis of lung nodule features for vascular structures. 4. To show the relationship between the volume doubling time (VDT) and vascular structures.

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

1. Procedure review for lung nodule volumetry on chest CT images 2. Measurement of VDT of lung nodules by using two time-series CT scans. 3. Computational measurements of vascular structures around nodules - Nodule segmentation - Image filtering based on Hessian Matrix - Line enhancement - Vessel counting (semi-automated) 4. Statistical analysis - Mann-Whitney test for VDT vs nodule volume per vessel - Chi-test for VDT vs benign/malignancy 5. Clinical and scientific contribution - Importance for understanding of volumetry and VDT - Prognoses of lung nodules based on the analysis of vessel structures

SUMMARY

This exhibit reviewed the importance of volumetry procedure for lung nodules to measure VDT and the relationship between VDT and vascular structures around nodule for the prognoses.
