PURPOSE/AIM

The supraclavicular fossa is a region of the inferior neck defined clinically by surface landmarks. Radiographic anatomy and description of the contents of the supraclavicular fossa as seen on CT has not been described. Our aim is to identify radiographic landmarks of the supraclavicular fossa and describe its contents, including a discussion of various pathologic processes that occur in this region.

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

10 patients referred by ENT for contrast enhanced CT scan of the neck will be selected prior to scheduled exam. The supraclavicular triangle will be painted onto the skin surface with barium prior to the CT examination. Radiologic anatomic landmarks of this region will be defined. Internal contents: muscular nerve vascular anatomy lymph node stations A pictorial case review of the various disease processesof the region will be provided, including: Nasopharyngeal metastases Trauma Vascular pathology/anomalies Nerve pathology MSK pathology/anomalies

SUMMARY

The supraclavicular fossa is a region identified by surface landmarks. Its radiographic landmarks, contents, and pathology are described, with emphasis on its importance in staging, treatment, and prognosis of nasopharyngeal cancer. A sampling of various pathologies that affect this region will be shown in a case review format.
