PURPOSE/AIM

1. Present the clinical and morphological classification of acute pancreatitis (AP) and imaging criteria to diagnose AP types 2. Discuss the standardized nomenclature for reporting imaging findings 3. Case based illustration of the morphologic features and complications of AP 4. Review the types of AP related fluid collections

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

1. Clinical classification of AP Mild AP Severe AP Organ failure 2. Morphologic features of interstitial edematous vs. necrotizing pancreatitis Pancreatic and peripancreatic necrosis Infected necrosis 3. Pancreatic and peripancreatic fluid collections defined 4. Complications of AP 5. Extrapancreatic findings important for patient care

SUMMARY

The major teaching points of this exhibit are: 1. A new standardized nomenclature exists for the reporting of imaging features of AP 2. Knowledge of the varied imaging features of AP is necessary to accurately diagnose the morphologic type of AP, which is important for appropriate patient management 3. Pancreatitis related fluid collections vary in type and treatment strategy
