PURPOSE/AIM

1. Review current evidence regarding use of contrast enhanced computed tomography (CECT) in acute pelvic trauma (APT). 2. Discuss important technical factors influencing sensitivity of CECT for APT. 3. Introduce the concept of finding the bleeding vessel based on the pelvic vascular territories, using case examples with DSA correlation.

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

Use of CECT for detecting haemorrhage in APT How CECT compares with DSA (literature review) Technical factors affecting sensitivity of CTA  How adjustments to CT scan protocol may influence therapeutic decision making in APT Briefly review the pelvic vascular anatomy using illustrations Review of CECT imaging findings Sample cases with DSA correlation and reference to pelvic vascular anatomy Future directions and summary

SUMMARY

Major teaching points: 1. Current role of CECT in management algorithm of APT 2. Concept of finding the bleeder based on pelvic vascular territories using case examples with DSA correlation
