PURPOSE/AIM

Ampullary and periampullary lesions can have a wide overlap in imaging features and may present with subtle or nonspecific imaging findings. Furthermore, pseudolesions will often occur and should be distinguished from true pathology. This exhibit will provide an overview of pathology and imaging features of a wide variety of pathology in this region

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

Introduction: Review of anatomy of the ampulla and immediate surrounding periampullary region  Review of diagnostic modalities with emphasis on CT, MR, conventional transabdominal and endoscopic ultrasound, including more recent advances  Benign lesions and conditions  Malignant lesions  Pseudolesions and how to discriminate them from true pathology

SUMMARY

This exhibit is an overview of regional anatomy along with a wide spectrum of lesions and conditions that may occur in the ampulla and surrounding area. Through this exhibit, the reviewer will also be aware of imaging pitfalls that occur when evaluating the ampullary/periampullary region.
