PURPOSE/AIM

To review and compare current 3D reconstruction methods, to demonstrate a robust, feasible, and accurate method for smooth volume reconstruction of histopathology images, its comparison to the state-of-the-art methods, and evaluations.

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

1) Analysis of Histology Images 2) Pre-processing stages for Histopathology Images 3) Registration (Alignment) of Histopathology Slices 4) Smooth volume reconstruction through stacking 5) Evaluation with/without using a reference volume (i.e., MRI).

SUMMARY

We review and compare 3D reconstruction methods for histology images. We also present a fully automatic 3D reconstruction method for histology images. We objectively compare the existing reconstruction methods with the our proposed method in several ways 1) simplicity, 2) automatic versus manual, 3) reconstruction quality. The superiority of the proposed method is highlighted over 1, 2 and 3.
