PURPOSE/AIM

Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis can have a varied and complex radiographic presentation. The radiologist plays a key role during all the stages of this disease. The aim of this educational exhibit is to review the radiographic findings of LCH from head to toe, with emphasis on a multimodality approach to the diagnosis and management of the disease.

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

1. Review the spectrum of common and uncommon imaging findings of LCH. 2. Discuss the role/complimentary roles of the different imaging modalities in the management of LCH with emphasis on the multimodality approach to evaluating the skeletal, pulmonary, neurological and gastrointestinal manifestations of LCH. 3. Discuss the role of evolving imaging modalities and their advantages. 4. Suggest imaging protocols to assist in the management of patients with LCH.

SUMMARY

Radiographic appearance of LCH is highly variable, depending on the site/organ of involvement and the phase of the disease. It requires a multimodality imaging approach to it's management with different imaging modalities playing a complimentary role in the initial diagnosis and staging, evaluating response to therapy and follow up of the disease.
