Classification of labral lesions is complex, with confusing acronyms reported throughout the arthroscopic and radiology literature. The purpose of this educational exhibit is to review the anatomy and magnetic resonance imaging characteristics of the various anterior and posterior labral lesions.
1. Introduction. 2. Anatomy. 3. Optimal MRI protocols. 4. Anterior labral lesions: Bankart, ALPSA, Perthes, ALIPSA, HAGL, GLAD, GLOM, BHAGL. 5. Posterior labral lesions: Bennet, Kim, reverse Bankart, SLAP, etc. 6. Anatomic variants that may represent labral tears: Buford Complex, Sublabral Recess, Sublabral Foramen/Hole.
Over the past decade, there has been an increased attention towards labral pathology of the shoulder. Currently, complex nomenclature, full of eponyms that sound similar, exists in both the orthopedic and radiology literature. This educational exhibit systematically discusses each entity in an easy to remember manner, with schematics and images that identify key characteristics of each lesion.
