PURPOSE/AIM

To review the tecnical steps for adequate selection of the length of the Viatorr stent graft. To illustrate the technique for precise placement of the device.  To review potential problems with poor selection of the size of the device. To illustrate several complicationes related to improper placement of the device .

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

How to perform a succesful TIPS using the Viatorr stent graft . 1. Description of the Viatorr stent graft . 2. How to measure the length of the device: Problems with devices too short or too long.   3. Step by step technique to deploy the device : Potential problems with advancement and deployment of the device . 4. Potential problems with misplacement : portal vein occlusion,  hepatic and inferior vena cava stenosis/occlusion, future transplant surgery problems.   

SUMMARY

The use of a Viatorr stent graft has improved significantly the primary and secondary patency of Transjugular Portosystemic Shunts (Tips ). Due to its special dual design with a proximal uncovered portion and fully covered body, a careful and detailed technique with adequate device selection and  precise placement is very important to prevent severe complications.
