To review pathology occuring in the choroid fissure.
To discuss pattern of spread of pathology along the choroid fissure as a CSF conduit.
Review anatomy of the choroid fissure.
Demonstrate course of the anterior choroidal artery within the choroid fissure in the normal setting and in a patient with an enlarged artery supplying a choroid plexus papilloma.
Review various entities occuring in the choroidal fissure.
Lipoma
Choroidal fissure cyst
epidermoid
spread of hemorrhage; spread of tumor along the choroidal fissure
Large draining vein from AVM traversing the choroidal fissure
Metastases
The major teaching points of this exhibit are:
Understanding choroid fissure anatomy will help the radiologist recognize the etiology of choroid fissure pathology and its potential spread.
Epidermoids, choroidal fissure cysts and lipomas are common entities to involve the choroid fissure.
Characteristic appearance of hypertrophied arteries and veins coursing along the choroid fissure in various pathologic settings e.g. vascular tumor or AVM.
