Abstract Archives of the RSNA, 2010
Ricardo D. Garcia-Monaco MD, PhD, Presenter: Nothing to Disclose
Latin America (LA) is a broad geographical area that shares both, Latin roots and a vast area of the American continent. It comprises not only Central and South America, but also many Caribbean islands. It has a huge population of different ethnics, including natives and descendants of centennial immigrations from Europe-mainly Spain-, Asia and Central Africa. Although LA shares many common features, there are also extreme differences among different regions and countries. Indeed, the climate, the lifestyle, the culture as well as the technological and economical development are heterogeneous and even opposite in this vast territory.
Radiology in LA started as early as the discovery of the x-rays in the late IXX century, being its development and influence in medicine heterogeneous, as it is LA history and actuality.
In this session, a journey to LA Radiology: the past, the present and the future, prestigious LA radiologists will show the historical background of LA radiology and its contributions to medicine as well as the ongoing links between LA radiologists and RSNA. Imaging findings of specific LA endemic diseases will also be addressed, an issue of interest not only in LA but also for US radiologists that practice in areas of LA immigration.
Lastly, a group of young LA radiologists will focus on diagnostic and interventional radiologic innovations (work in progress) that they are developing at their homelands, potential contributions for future clinical practice.
Welcome and enjoy the Journey to LA Radiology at this RSNA special session.
