PURPOSE/AIM

To present an innovative "hands-on" of sacroplasty, using combined intraoperative CT/fluoroscopy for placement of delivery needles and cement

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

1. Discussion of  the conditions and rationale for conventional and ballon sacroplasty;  2. Review the methods of approach published in the literature;  3. Description of the process of pathway and target calculations step-by-step, using anatomical diagrams and CT/fluoro images from actual patients; 4. Practical pointers - from our experience with successfull 11 sacroplasty procedures.

SUMMARY

Unlike spine vertebroplasty, the approach to parcutaneous sacral augmentation is more challanging, mainly because the natural bony landmarks are more obscure and may not be readily appreciated on fluoroscopy. We present an intraoperative method of combined CT/fluoroscopy guidance, which allows for more precise instrument placement and delivery of augmenting material to intended target.
