1.To address anatomy, functional networks relevant to the internal capsule (IC), presented from a clinical imaging perspective.
2.To arm radiologists with an understanding of functional organization and implications of the IC, in a format specifically designed to provide a frame of reference useful to translating DTI into clinical imaging practice.
1.Anatomic connections including the motor, sensory and cognitive projections coursing through the IC.
2.Connectivity and cortical correlates relative to IC networks.
3.Anatomic relationships needed to identify functional networks of IC on standard imaging.
4.DTI of the IC.
5.Impairments associated with injuries to specific regions of the IC.
Anatomic drawings, pathway diagrams and DTI are utilized to illustrate principals underlying the function and impairments relevant to this structure.
This exhibit is designed to address functional networks relevant to IC, from a clinical imaging perspective. Impairments of the IC may result in a wide variety of deficits depending on the location of the insult. These include sensori-motor, cognitive, visual, vestibular, and auditory deficits. A thorough understanding of the functional organization of IC networks and the deficits induced by lesions or injury involving those networks is paramount to the translation of DTI in clinical practice.
