1) Describe imaging findings of lesions undergoing percutaneous biopsy and learn how these relate to the histopathology. 2) Learn how to correlate imaging findings with pathology results and determine if the results are concordant. 3) Determine which benign lesions require further excision or close surveillance. 4) Learn how to resolve discordant imaging and biopsy reports.
With the widespread use of image-guided percutaneous biopsy, the radiologist is often the clinician who has obtained a definitive diagnosis of breast pathology. The radiologist must correlate the imaging findings with the pathology report and determine if the biopsy results are concordant and make the appropriate recommendation for any further follow-up, surgical biopsy, or treatment to the referring clinician. There are a number of lesions, which, although benign, require further excision or closer surveillance. These will be described and the appropriate management discussed. If the imaging and pathology results are discordant, then procedures to resolve this are required.
