Calcific and ossific densities are often seen in and around joints on radiographs. These may relate to a wide variety of disease processes ranging from arthridities to tumors. The purpose of this exhibit is to illustrate through multiple cases how a radiologist can narrow a differential or make a diagnosis
1. Cases will be presented in a quiz format.
2. Multiple imaging modalities including radiographs, CT, and MRI will be used.
3. The key findings in each case will be highlighted.
4. Discussion in each case will include an analysis of how these key features and the imaging modalities used help narrow the differential diagnosis.
5. Where appropriate companion cases will be used to illustrate mimics of a disease process with a discussion of how one may distinguish between the two.
1. Calcification and ossification in and around joints are seen with a wide range of disease processes.
2. The differential diagnosis can be narrowed by recognizing the location and morphology of these densities, other associated findings and mimics.
3. Knowing what additional imaging studies to obtain also helps in making an accurate diagnosis.
