PURPOSE/AIM

The purpose of this exhibit is to; 1. Review the anatomy of the optic pathway. 2. Discuss the various lesions of optic pathway. 3. Describe the differential diagnoses of optic nerve lesions.

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

Review anatomy of the optic pathway using high resolution MRI images. Describe imaging findings of lesions of optic nerve including neoplasms such as meningioma,  anaplastic astrocytoma, infections/inflammatory causes and systemic diseases including NF1, Multiple Sclerosis and Sarcoidosis. A compendium of cases of optic nerve involvement in NF1. All cases are selected from a database of proven cases from referral centres such as Cancer Research Center, Skull base center and Children's Hospital.

SUMMARY

After reviewing this article, reader will be able to; 1. Discuss anatomy of the optic nerve and pathway 2. Identify and describe key imaging features of various pathologies affecting the optic pathway with detailed description of diseases of the optic nerve.
