The purpose of this exhibit is:
To review the normal anatomy of the pulmonary artery.
To illustrate the most common pathologic entities affecting the pulmonary artery and the radiologic interventions available.
To illustrate some uncommon diseases that could affect the artery
Anatomy and pathophysiology of pulmonary artery
Imaging appearance of the pulmonary artery on different imaging modalities
Features related to specific diseases would be described
Cases such as pulmonary embolism, Takayasu's disease, Wegener's granulomatosis,pulmonary artery sarcoma, pseudoanuerysms will be presented
The major teaching points of this exhibit are:
The pulmonary artery forms a vital part of the mediastinum and is involved in different pathologic entities.
It is imperative that an abnormal pulmonary artery is recognized as one so that immediate intervention if available is applied.
