Monitoring and therapeutic devices are frequently used to assess and manage the cardiopulmonary status of the ICU patient. This exhibit will present a series of challenging cases to the reader to diagnose a variety of malpositions and other complications of these devices seen on portable chest radiographs and on select CT images.
The cases will be presented in a quiz format to diagnose the malposition and complications of endotracheal and tracheostomy tube, nasogastric and nasoenteric tube, central venous catheter, pulmonary artery catheter, intra-aortic balloon pump, thoracostomy tube, and transvenous pacing devices. The anatomic landmarks and the venous anatomy that help to identify the location and the radiologic findings that help to detect the complications of these devices will be discussed.
Monitoring and therapeutic devices such as the endotracheal and tracheostomy tube, nasogastric and nasoenteric tube, intravascular catheter, thoracostomy tube, and transvenous pacing devices are frequently required to manage ICU patients. This quiz format exhibit is designed to improve knowledge of the malposition and complications of these devices as seen on portable chest radiographs and on select CT images, critical for the accurate interpretation of images and timely management of patient.
