PURPOSE/AIM

To review the main clinical and radiologic aspects of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS).

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

With the increasing frequency of in vitro fertilization procedures, this disease process is becoming more common. Numerous complications can occur with OHSS, including third-space fluid accumulation, hemoconcentration, renal failure, and thromboembolic phenomena. Vigilance is required as these patients are at increased risk of ovarian torsion, ovarian rupture with internal hemorrhage, ectopic pregnancy, and infection. The exhibit depicts the complications of OHSS imaged with MR CT and US.

SUMMARY

The OHSS is the main cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in women undergoing in-vitro fertilization. This exhibit provides an overview of clinical features and emergent radiologic management of OHSS helping radiologists to understand the importance of this entity and how to deal with it.
