PURPOSE

Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) - by means of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) calculation - can be used for in vivo quantification of the combined effects of capillary perfusion and diffusion. DWI had recently shown potential for tissue characterization in the abdomen and pelvis, including characterization of diffuse and focal renal disease and prostate cancer. In this introduction, we will briefly discuss the sequence parameters, results, limitations and future applications of DWI in GU pathology.
