PURPOSE/AIM

This exhibit educates radiologists as to the various imaging presentations of focal fatty infiltration of the liver.

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

•Quiz format •Each case will be presented in detail with discussion of the findings •Cases include multiple examples of typical locations of focal fat, typical imaging findings, atypical imaging findings of focal fat mimicking metastases, regenerative nodules, infarct & peliosis hepatis •Cases also include Fat containing focal liver lesions(HCC,AML & Adenoma) mimicking focal fatty infiltration• Tips to differentiate focal fat from true liver lesions• Value of MRI as a problem solving tool

SUMMARY

Focal fatty infiltration of the liver poses a significant diagnostic problem in the evaluation of hepatic imaging particularly in patients with known malignancy. Focal fatty infiltration is more commonly detected due to increase in use of cross-sectional imaging. Typical imaging findings in a typical location poses little problem in making correct diagnosis; however identification of atypical imaging appearances and atypical locations are important and obviates the need for invasive tests.
