PURPOSE/AIM

1. To discuss the pathogenesis and clinical features of the various forms of CNS tuberculosis. 2. To present a comprehensive pictorial review of the range of manifestations of tuberculosis in the central nervous system. 3 To highlight the characteristic differentiating features of neurotuberculosis.

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

*Disease frequency, pathogenesis and clinical presentation. *CT and MR appearances of cranial and spinal tuberculous meningitis, focal parenchymal granulomas (tuberculomas), abscesses, cerebritis, spinal cord arachnoiditis and focal intramedullary tuberculomas. *Complications of these disease processes including ventriculitis, hydrocephalus, infarction, syringomyelia/syringobulbia* For each disorder the differential diagnoses are also discussed and images included for comparison.

SUMMARY

Clinical response to anti-tuberculous therapy in CNS tuberculosis is usually very good if the diagnosis is made early before irreversible neurological damage. Familiarity with the various clinical and imaging presentations is therefore essential.
