To evaluate the clinical and pathological significance of scrotal calcifications
1221 patients were reviewed retrospectively in ours hospitals between genuary-02 and march-07.Scrotal calcifications were diagnosed by sonographic criteria in 128 patients.Size, number and location(testicular or extratesticular)were determined.
77 extratesticular calcifications:18 in epididymis,50 tunica vaginalis,9 appendages.
51 intratesticular calcifications:40 microlitiasis,9 tumors(1 seminoma,1 teratocarcinoma,3 ca.embrionary,3 fibrosis,1 epidermoid testicular cyst),2 old hematoma
Extratesticular calcifications are usually benign and related to previous inflammatory diseases. No changes were seen in follow-up examinations.
Intratesticular calcifications particularly if multiple and grouped, were considered highly suspicious for malignancy, and surgery was mandatory
